    Worth visiting!

As a New Yorker, I got made fun of by all of my friends for going to the ball drop. It’s ridiculously touristy, but I figured it was one of those things you’ve got to do once in your life. So I went. I stood there for 12 hours, not able to eat or drink, and then the ball dropped. It was great and the energy was amazing. I’m glad I did it once, but never again. If you were a tourist in town, I’d recommend spending those 12 hours you’d otherwise spend waiting to see something else in the city.

Go once, and then never again.

It's kind of cheating saying I've been here...  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

since I didn’t get here till after 2am, but I think it still counts, and since I probably won’t be back here on New Year’s again, I’ll have to say it counts. I think my diabetes precludes me from going 6-12 hours without a bathroom, alcohol or no alcohol.

I saw a guy in a kilt making snow angels in the garbage/confetti (the event was clearly sponsored by target, looking at their logo all over the tonnes of garbage.

I was surprised to see so many bars closed by 3am! Isn’t this supposed to be the city that never closes or never somethings?

    Worth visiting!

You don’t mind being hearded like cattle and you can go more than 6 hours without peeing after spending the entire evening celebrating by drinking lots of alcohol.

A tip I have about this place  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Go early, and be prepared to stand for hours without using the bathroom. But you’ll have lots of fun, dance tons, and meet interesting people. Worth it whether you’re a local (like me) or a visitor. The excitement is contagious in a way it is nowhere else.

God, it was miserable.  — 2 years ago

    Not worth it!

I was there in 1999. It was frickin’ freezing, we were stuck behind a barricade out past the Olive Garden, there was no atmosphere—It just plain sucked. In the end, we left early, headed back to my hotel room, and watched the ball drop on TV.
