Port douglas is where you stay if you want to see the places around cairns but want beaches instead of mudflats, resorts instead of hotels, but blander food.

Really, it’s all about the surroundings, nature does a much better job than the mega resorts do.

oh them memories.. in port douglas i had my nose broken, got a “tropical ear”, severe earinfection, sliced by stinger, worked to build the resort golf course, got caught, no work visa, back in the trailer cops found my crops, got sentenced, jailed, deported, but if it wasn’t for it i wouldn’t have had that memory ! and i tricked myself back in to aussie anyway !

Port Douglas is in the Douglas Shire, which is probably the only area in the world where two world heritage places meet. The Daintree Rainforest comes down to the coast and the Great Barrier Reef comes into land. There is so much to do and see around here. There’s the rainforest, you can go crocodile spotting on the Daintree River, see cassowaries on the drive through the Daintree to Cape Tribulation, go snorkelling or scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, plus we have amazing beaches (including Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas). The major industries here are tourism, sugar cane farming and fishing. The cane on the hills really adds to the beauty of the area. I’ve attached a photo of Mossman Gorge where my husband proposed.
