I would love to visit the sacred sites of the Dalai Lama in Lhasa, and see Mt Everest (from a distance!) I don’t know if I could handle the altitude though.

In the last couple of years, I’ve been reading about Buddhism and also about the Dalai Lama, and this made me interested in Tibet. It is a somewhat mysterious place as access to this region/country has been limited to tourists, but I would love to see it for myself. I don’t know much about the situation regarding Tibet’s status as a country or region of China, but both Tibet and China are of interest to me, for different reasons, and I would like to see both sides of the situation for myself, as a (hopefully) unbiased outsider. The main thing I’m not unbiased about is the inexcusable use of violence against the Tibetan people, regardless of who’s right or wrong in the dispute.
I’m interested in the Orient generally, and would like to use any experiences there to help me write a book one day. I think Tibet is a very spiritual place and I believe that I would gain so much from visiting the place.

I am currently reading a book called “A Beginner’s Guide to Changing the World” by Isabella Losada.
I learned alott about what you gotta do to make it to Tibet.
It’d be like a great journey… I’d have to prepare my mind and body for this trip.

Worth visiting!
“when in china, where you need to be is where the crowd is headed…”, he said.
and so i did. for a short while anyway.
i went across china from guangzhou to lhasa, and did some random bus-ing and hitching until i made it to nepal. knowing mandarin would’ve helped heaps. having a TTB permit would’ve too.

Worth visiting!
When I think of Tibet, the word spirituality always comes to mind. There are so many places I want to visit … the 7 wonders of the world, the continents, the natural wonders, however the appeal of Tibet is different. For me it’s not a place you go to see, it’s a place you experience. It’s almost as if this place holds the doorway to your soul.
Every year I will travel as a gift to myself. So many places, so little time. This year i can hear Tibet calling. If there are others who would also like to go to Tibet, maybe we can form some kind of group. I’d love to meet anyone else who’s on a quest for self discovery!

Worth visiting!
I visited Tibet in September 2006, first starting off in Nepal. I would recommend it to anyone.

dumpycactus asks,
“I'm taking the train from Guangzhou to Lhasa, then perhaps flying back from Kathmandu. Any tips or recommendations? Yay or nay to a plan of somewhat 'wingin' it'? Necessary preparations, other than the obvious (visa/guidebook/camera)? Thanks!!!”

truclinh asks,
“I want to go to Tibet on April. Is it a good time to travel there? I'm in Vietnam now, just next to China. Is it possible to go by train? How many days will it take? And how about hotels and prices?”

Lisa asks,
“I would like to visit in summer 2006. Should I plan to go with a group, or try to make my own arrangements? If possible I would like to combine this trip with time in neighboring countries such as Nepal and Bhutan. Thanks!”
