Would’ve hated to miss this place. Took a Globus tour. Was well worth it. Moreso seeing Cairo, Alexandria, cruising down the Nile, seeing Aswan, Luxor, Karnak, etc. The pyramids shouldn’t be missed just don’t take a camel ride and learn to doggedly repeat “no thanks” before you get there. :) Really amazing to see all that history and all the huge buildings at long last.

I’d always wanted to go to Egypt and I eventually went just before I turned 21. I stayed in Hurghada and also went to Luxor to go to Valley of the Kings which was really good. The beach was gorgeous aswell. Unfortunately I couldn’t eat as I really didn’t like any of the food plus we all caught stomach bugs! Being hassled on the street all day isn’t fun either (especially if you’re a woman!). Otherwise it’s pretty good.

We stayed in a five star hotel and loved it…we made the silly mistake of going to the valley of the kings in the middle of the day (it was so hot I could feel my skin burning)!

Egypt, past and present, fascinating to the nth degree!! Submerge yourself in its history, and enjoy the engulfing hospitality of its current residents! I love the hot climate, the beaches, the Nile, the sites, the markets and eateries, the people! I had a wonderful time back in the ‘90s. I’d love to go back and see more, but because the powers that be have reduced U.S.-Arab relations to an all-time low, even if I could afford it now, I’d rather wait a while.

Cairo’s alright, nice even. My challenge is to get out of the office and get sightseeing, because I’ve seen too little of the grandeur that is reported to be around me.

I can divide up Egypt’s past into a number of parts, but it is important to remember that there is history, and the time before history, called prehistory. History is the period of time when humans made records by writing about events, while prehistory, is the time before people could write. During every period of Egypt’s past there were a number of people who stand out from others. Most of them are kings or pharaohs, and the earliest ones that we know about were recorded to have ruled more than 5000 years ago. Because of the way the country was split up during ancient historical times, there could have been more than one king. We really do not know the exact number of kings Egypt has had. The kings were able to acquire some great power, and records even show that a few of the ancient pharaohs became Egyptian gods.
