I visited the Potala Palace my first day in Tibet. Climbing the steps up was really hard because I hadn’t yet acclimated to the high altitude. Anyhow, the visit to the Palace and the view of the city from the top was well worth the effort.

Just be sure you buy tickets beforehand. To protect the structure of the building, they restrict the number of tourists to 2300 per day and tickets sell out in advance.

I came here to catch the train to Tibet and eat a lot of mutton. Mission accomplished.
