Sadly, CBGB’s is closed.
Forget the tourist traps...well, most of them, anyway. Of course, you're going to see a Broadway show -- but wouldn't you like to see where theater really happens in NYC? And yes, you'll see The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island -- but what about other monuments that are off the beaten track? What about the cool stuff no one ever talks about or the things the tour guides never show you? Here are a few of my personal favorites (especially if you are a person of color).

They are most definately open. Joan Jett is playing there on the 7th. They’ll be around for at least another year.

They closed for a few weeks. I think it was something with rent, I’m not sure.
It recently re-opened.

i’m glad that i got a chance to perform on that particular stage, and at cb’s gallery, too. eventually, that’s something that not every musician/performer in the city will be able to say that they’ve done. but that’s why i came to nyc — to have those experiences. and now that those places are going away, it may be time to leave nyc.

Well, I saw the Empire State Building… Statue of Liberty… several museums… Times square… Central Park (just not the zoo)… Barnes and Noble (hee)… I was only there for three days, and, in my defence – it was 96 degrees, so getting to places took some time.
