When booking a hotel in Serbia, you will find that all the main websites have very little choice: lastminute.com doesn’t even have Serbia (or Yugoslavia) in its list of countries! A better option is to use a Serbian site like VisitSerbia.org. Make sure you print out the email receipt to show the hotel when you check in so that they know you booked through them and you get the special discount rate. And keep it until checkout to remind them again. It cut my hotel bill by more than 50% in Belgrade!

Remember that Serbia is not (yet) part of the European Union so if you are travelling to or through Serbia, make sure you have a valid passport. An ID card from any of the EU member states is not enough. Serbian border guards will remind you of this and not let you enter the country.
Apart from that, once you’re in Serbia, you’ll definitely enjoy your stay, it’s a great place to visit and still slightly off the beaten track.

Hello!
Maybe, you ask now: why am I near to Serbia? Well, it’s beacause that my father borned there. My grandparents are still live there, and we are often go there, and visit them. :)
So, about Serbia: That’s a nice place. People are friendly, and there are interesting old buildings. The shops, and cafés are really good there, and… I love to be there. I hope you will visit Serbia once.
bye!

While travelling from Milan to Athens by train, I stopped off in Beograd, the capital of Serbia. I don’t know where I went wrong, but somehow I boarded the wrong train when I returned to the rail station. It wasn’t until the train I was on started moving that I clicked that I was on the wrong one. I ended up having to jump from the moving train which left me tumbling across the platform in a Wild West style barrel roll. Then the train I should have been on started to leave the platform. I had to chase that train down the platform and jump onto it while it was moving. I made it by the skin of my teeth and it took me several minutes to stop laughing as I tried to explain what happened to other travellers on the train. What a crack up.

alejestem asks,
“I want to travel cheaply around Serbia, what should I see, how can I travel around the country without a car and what kind of accommodation should I look out for?”
