I took a trip to the carribean last week and visited 5 islands. This is the one I can’t wait to go back to. It has a perfect balance of development and untouched beauty. Even the poorer areas of the island feel safe enough for a tourist to roam through and are welcoming. The people of the island have an amazing spirit and are so friendly. They are also stunning! The gene pool in this place is amazing- it produces some of the most beautiful people I have ever seen. The roads are a little scary, narrow enough to seem like one-way curvy mountain roads, yet somehow navagated by two way traffic. I have only been home from vacation for 3 days and am already trying to plan when I can go back.

Very friendly people! Lots of stuff to do beside sit on the beach (although you can do that too). Try the Piton beer!

I visited St Lucia when I was on a P&O cruise from Southampton. The beaches were beautiful and the feeling of serenity was explosive.
However, I would not go back here again as something didn’t feel quite right, as if the locals did not like tourists being there – very unwelcoming – especially if you compare the feel of the island to Barbados, which is very welcoming and warming.
We wandered away from the port the day we docked there and that was a shock, many people just sleeping on street corners, jumping out of hedges at us trying to sell drugs, the poverty we saw that evening was an eye opener.
Having said that, most areas of towns that have a port are not going to be the prettiest or touristic, I live in Malaga and I can’t say that the port there is ideal for a night out!
We spent only one day in St Lucia so perhaps we need to give it a fair trial :)

I took my wife to the Jalousie Hilton, which has since been sold, but had a wonderful time visiting Soufriere and friends we met who were staying at Ladera. We took the helicopter from the airport which provided a great entry past Soufriere into the Hilton. The restaurant Dasheen, owned by an ex Californian, offers a menu almost as good as the view of Caribbean through the Pitons.
