There are loads of places in Kentucky that have nice camping areas. Is there any specific area in Ky that you’d like to visit? That may help you decide on an actual camping site. But yeah, Kentucky is great for camping. Well, I can say that about South Eastern and Eastern Kentucky anyway.

I can vouch for Western Kentucky. Especially Southwestern. We have many, many lakes with TONS of recreation areas.

Sorry, I couldn’t tell you any place specifically. I’ve only driven through Kentucky… it was beautiful!

Right about now, the best places would be in Eastern Kentucky.
Otherwise “the bugs” will be too much, unless you have cots and mosquito netting, and plenty of DEET.
I suggest you start with Red River Gorge, and work your way up the elevation to the Appalachian ridgelines. Oh, you’ll still find insects, but at least when you get to higher elevations, you’ll have a breeze now and then, and maybe the insects won’t be as bad.

Red River Gorge is probably the best place to hike and camp. There is a five hundred foot tall natural arch way of stone. It is breathtaking.

Girl! camping is all you can do in Kentucky.. well there is good chicken there too i suppose. But yea, go camping there, knock yourself out. But make sure you do it closer to the appalachian mountains, otherwise it will be too hot and buggy.
the closer you are to VA and WV, the better the scenery gets.

I would have to agree. Head to the hills. It is beautiful and stocked with good ol’ southern hospitality.

I love camping in Kentucky. I did tons of it when I was in the Boy Scouts. We would usually go to Land Between the Lakes on the Western side of the state. It is a bit touristy though, if you like the quiet outdoors. At Land Between the Lakes you have lots of choices of things to do though. If you like to sailboat or just go to the beaches, then you have the lakes right there. There is a planetarium there, and a wildlife observation area. Horseback riding trails. If you like quiet though, I would definitely suggest heading to the hills in the East. I haven’t been there enough to tell you much, except that it is quiet and when the fog rolls in, it is kind of mystical. When you get to Kentucky, feel free to ask anybody about it. Kentucky is a user friendly place.
