Take advantage of the subway system, called the MTR (M*ass *Transit Railway). It has stops all over the place, going to all of the major neighborhoods of the city.
For a really bustling spot, check out the Mong Kok district, especially in the evening. It is packed with people, restaurants, shops, tiny malls, everything. It’s way intense.
There’s a theme park out on an island, Ocean Park, which in my opinion is mostly pretty boring. There is a gondola that connects the two ends of the island, which has a really great view of the bay, and there is a waffle stand that is mighty tasty, but other than that I found it quite lame. But there are pandas, which is a plus.
Victoria Peak is kind of a touristy place to go, but the view really is worth it, and worth the insane drive up (winding, narrow roads). It’s really cool when it’s misty out, and then it suddenly clears and you can see all of the city below. Breathtaking.
Ladies’ Market is another touristy spot, almost the sort of place that you can find in every single tourist city in the world: a bunch of vendors’ stalls lined up, selling Rulex watches and Oaklie sunglasses, and assorted “authentic” local merchandise. Even so, this is still a prime place to hit, as the deals really are there sometimes. If you can haggle, go ahead, but try not to be too cheap, seriously _ Also a great place to practice your Cantonese (you aren’t expecting everyone to speak English, are you?) and chat with some locals.
That’s all I’ve got off the top of my head, but I may post more if more comes to mind.
Go exploring, be safe, meet some people, make some stories, and have fun!

Does the tram/funicular still run up Victoria Peak? That’s a way to avoid driving and enjoy the ride to the top of the peak – the car climbs up the amazingly steep hillside, stopping from time to time to let passengers off and on.

The night market canbe a fun place to wander around and eat some good food.
Also, as mentioned before, Victoria peak is touristy but you can’t beat the view.
A ferry ride from Kowloon to Central at night is one of the best ways to experience the HK skyline.
I also suggest seeking out a little street on HK island called Wing Wah Lane (I think that’s how it’s spelled). You’ll find some yummy food at reasonable prices there.
As mentioned before, it’s going to be hot and may rain like crazy from time to time. Bring your shorts and an umbrella and you should have a great time.

The city never sleeps. If you’re feeling peckish at 4am in the morning, then go for a wander and you’ll definitely find a cafe open at that time. Great – especially if you’re suffering from jet lag.
Getting around the city is pretty easy too – get your yourself an octopus card at the earliest opportunity. It saves having the exact change for the mutliple bus, KCR and MTR journeys you’ll make.
HK is a cosmopolitan city and tourists only usually have time for the city bit of HK. If you have time I’d totally recommend going off the beaten track a bit. Like, go Tai Po and make a wish at the wishing tree. Go for a trek on HK island and then end up on one of the bays (I did the trek along the Dragon’s Back last time and then ended up on Big Wave Bay, that was a really good day out).
Along with all the exciting stuff happening in the city – you’ll have a wonderful experience I’m sure.

the tram is fun to ride on the top floor at the very front.

Think they’ve already answered your question pretty well! I would also check out the jade market too, but that’s me! Their freshwater pearls are great value!
