hah, well, you can find spam musubi in almost any local food place. i don’t think there is much in volcano. but if you eat down in hilo, there is SOOOO MUCH FOOD. as you are coming down kanoelehua which is the highway from volcano, you can turn on lanikaula and go down a few blocks (its just before the university) and there is a korean/local place, a vegan place, a pakistani place and subway. or, if you turn up kilauea and head downtown, just after the big tree and lake and just before the long wall with paintings and the construction work there is the most awesome thai place there called ayuthaya. if you go down kilauea to where the farmer’s market is on Mamo street, there is a cafe there (with milkshakes!) and if you walk down mamo to the end of it, before the farmer’s market though there is a thai place, royal siam, i think. and if you take kanoelehua to kamehameha (the highway considered bayfront or hawai’i belt road)... at that corner is a diner called Ken’s with awesome waffles and pancakes and local dishes. before that is another thai place on the strip mall. and on the opposite side of ken’s is verna’s which most likely has spam stuff. i KNOW it has loco moco’s. on kamehameha through downtown, there are a bunch of food places. there’s a mexican place.. i think a samoan place or some islander place thing and little luncheons with ice cream and sandwich kinda things. there’s an italian place. cafe pesto. if you want, you can go up waianuenue just a couple blocks and there’s a tiny ice cream shoppe called hilo homemade. its great. i just left. you should go there and eat ice cream for me :P
