I don’t know about the design/agency scene. The few graphic designers I have met here seem to move away or go into other kinds of work to keep the bills paid. This is a better place to visit than to live in, unless you’re here from military. I would not suggest relocating here unless you have a job lined up here already first, and even then, I’d have reservations. Take a look at the classifieds for San Antonio to get an idea of our job market. Have you considered Austin, Dallas, or Houston instead? They may have alot more to offer for that field.

This is not just a good place to visit, it’s a great place to live as well!

As for the graphic design scene, that I don’t personally know anything about that. The suggestion about checking out the newspaper for an idea about the job market is a good one.

There are alot of large businesses based in S.A. Valero, Tesoro, USAA, Budweiser, and Washington Mutual just to name a few.

There are also alot of small, independently owned businesses in the area that might need your services.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm, I don’t know anything much about graphic design….I looked it up in the classified section of the san antonio paper online…here is the one link that mentions “graphic design.” You’ll probably have to cut and paste it into your browser.

While I disagree with the poster who says that SA isn’t a great place to live and recommends plastic, self-involved Dallas, overpriced, pseudo-hippie Austin, or hyper-industrialized, ultra-humid Houston, I do agree with him that having a job lined up in advance of moving would be a great idea. Of course, I think that’s a great idea no matter WHERE you move.

I wish I could help you by offering you the names of agencies in the area, but alas, that is not my field. I would suggest looking into the classifieds, yes, but also some employment agencies. Also consider freelance work. I have a friend who is a graphic designer in Dallas, and during times in between jobs, I know he has done freelance work to keep himself afloat.

It helps if your portfolio is digital, too, so you can search for jobs from a distance.

Best of luck with your search and your relocation!
