Nairobi is actually about a day’s drive away from the coast.
I would recommend it as a place to study abroad. A lot of cultural opportunities yet a modern city.
But if you want the coast, Nairobi would not be it. Mombasa is on the coast.

I am currently studying abroad here in Nairobi. I’ve been here since Sept 2005 and will be leaving in July 2006.
As has already been said, Nairobi is not on the coast. But it’s not a days drive…depending on how you look at it. I took a bus ride there two weeks ago and with a newly paved highway, it took about 7-8 hours.
I highly recommend coming to study here, however it really depends on who you are and where you want to study. It is not easy being a foreigner here as you will be asked for money anywhere you walk in the City centre. There is great poverty and great wealth…not much of a middle class. Although it’s manageable, the racism and prejudice that exist here are incredibly frustrating.
However, what has made it worthwhile being here is getting to know nationals, befriending them, traveling with them to their homes, and truly experiencing what it is like to be a Kenyan, investigating all there is to know about the culture. I love to study other cultures so I’m living it up.
There are lots of tourist things to do here, but I hate being labeled as a tourist as you might as well put a sign around your neck that says “I have lots of money.”
Anyways, if you come, you’ll never be the same. I would recommend it to anyone. My life will never be the same.
Hope you come. God bless.

I like the way you explain Nairobi.Seems like you have good company with you.I’m sure that what you,re experiencing now will never ever leave you.I’m talking about hospitality, family unions, places to visit and everything in general.
Wishing all those who visit my motherland will take time and learn about it:positively and also negatively coz it makes one understand things better.Wishing you a great time for the little time you have left b4 you leave.
I’m double sure that later in life, you’d like to go back and visit the beautiful place called Nairobi.

Hi
Nairobi is nowhere near the coast, it is a long way inland. 12 hour
overnight train journey to Mombasa which is on the Indian Ocean coast!
No idea about studying – there is almost certainly a university in
Nairobi, why don’t you search the web for their website and see what you
think? It’s certainly a fascinating city, but if you haven’t been to
Africa before I would go there for a visit if you can, before even
thinking about studying there!
If you do go, enjoy! But keep your eyes open and your wits about you!
It’s a very busy and complex city.

You would be wise to read as much as you can about Kenya, watch as many films as you can, and contact the Kenya Departments of Tourism for information.
