Lancaster
I grew up in Lancaster County, and I think you’ll be very happy living here. Armstrong is a great place to work. Try the cookies at Armstrong Manor if you get a chance to go there!
As for places to live: my fiancee and I are looking houses in downtown Lancaster. Some areas are very shady, but some neighborhoods are excellent. If you’re staying here temporarily or prefer apartment life, we have lived in Bentley Ridge for a year and have no complaints. The rent is a little higher than some comparable places, but everything is maintained very well and it’s safe…right between two police stations.
Bentley Ridge would be on the other side of the city from Armstrong, so you’d be looking at about a 20 minute drive to get there, but that isn’t that bad. I’m sure there are other places closer to Armstrong.

Because Armstrong is located downtown, you might want an apartment or townhouse in the city. Most of the buildings are going to be older, so if thats the sort of thing you like, i would say call some local real estate agetns and see what is available. If your not into that sort of housing, there are great comfortable townhome/apartment complexes just outside of the city. Crossgates golf club in Millersville is beautiful and about 15 minutes from armstrong (just for an example).
Good luck!

Hi,
Congrats on moving to Lancaster; it’s a great area, and the downtown is actually in a sort of renaissance right now. Housing is really affordable in the city and in the outlying areas. I have personally lived “in town” and in the suburban area, too. If you like older homes and apartments converted from old warehouses and old larger houses, then the city is for you. If you’d rather live in a newer complex, close to the city, I would recommend checking out places in Manor Township, Lancaster Township or Millersville (Millersville’s a state university town, so traffic gets a little heavy around here during the school year, though). My boyfriend’s mom used to live in a pretty nice complex called Miller’s Crossing, which is located on Rohrerstown Road near the intersection of Rt. 999 (Manor Avenue)...that’s right by Millersville and only about a 5-10 minute drive to/from Lancaster City. (Also on the same side of town as Armstrong). The area I’m referring you to is also rather close (10 minutes or so up Roherstown Road) to US Route 30 access, so it’s easy to get to other areas in central PA and beyond. Personally, if you’re looking for a place in Lancaster City, avoid a landlord called Chad Hurst…I rented from him once, and his properties are overpriced and poorly maintained. I would actually maybe contact a realtor to ask about good rentals for your price range (especially if you can’t get the chance to get to Lancaster and look around before you move). Anyway, hope this helps.

Hmmmm, might be a little late : p But if you’re still looking, here’re some tips:
If you really want to live downtown, the NorthWest corner of town is the nicest; clean, reasonable prices, close to F&M college campus. I lived on Pine St.
But if I’m not mistaken, Armstrong’s main site is on the Columbia Ave, outside of the city. In that case Millersville, and down along 741 are some nice places to rent or buy.
