A question about this place:
I'd like to visit Fes for a week or so later this year, travelling from the UK. I'm interested in seeing the art, craft & architecture. Can I get a sensibly priced package to Fes? All I've found so far are frighteningly expensive -- £800 and over.

Hey there,

What kind of package? In my opinion, package trips stink. If I were you, I’d get a cheap flight into the country (from the UK, try flying to Marrakesh), then use the great train/bus system to get to Fez. Alternately, you can fly from Paris Orly to Fez with Corsair relatively inexpensively.

Then, hire a guide from the official guide office to get a feel for the medina, then explore your own interests!

Thanks for the advice.

I was thinking of a package as I travel very rarely and am unused to it. I’ve only been out of the UK once in the last 15 years, and that was on an organised business trip..

What you suggest sounds pretty exciting and a little dangerous! Perhaps I should try something a little more adventurous than a package. Will the guides know any English? If I learn a little language beforehand, which one? I know a dozen or so words of French, no Arabic at all.
