A question about this place:
I'm heading here after hitching to Latvia in April. I'll only have a few days, but would love to visit Šiauliai and the Curonian Spit before flying back from Vilnius. Any suggestions?? Thanks ^_^

Hey

I think it could be interesting for you…. But i would suggest you better to visit TRAKAI…it is really very beautiful. Anyway…try to visit www.lietuva.lt www.travellithuania.lt and i guess you will find much more information with pictures. But still i suggest you to visit TRAKAI… :)))...
And also NIDA could be very interesting place to see…it is really very beautiful….and in the way to Nida you can to to go to see museum…and see the show of delphins…i was there last year…it was incredible.

Best regards… Karolina

P.S. By the way, maybe you can help me a bit. I am trying now my master thesis about Lithuania…maybe you can spend 1 min and fill my questionaire. You can find it: http://www.apklausa.lt/answerform.php?form=6157

and maybe you also can resent this link to your friends. It would help me really a lot….

Best regards,
Karolina

Thanks for the suggestions.

Would you prefer me to do the questionnaire before or after my trip? (Guess it depends if you need more of one type of answer than the other!)

Hey…

Done. Although a suggestion is to have the ‘submit’ and ‘reset’ buttons at the bottom of the questionnaire in English, as the questionnaire is in English!

The only reason I knew which one to pick was by looking at the raw HTML in the ‘View Source’ – otherwise I would have lost all my answers!

Yes thats right….but it is not up to me to change…that i guess owners of this site can change…

I tried to write up…that people have to put gerai….but actually i also think that they (the ones who did this site) could do something like OK…NO….just and in Lithuanian and in English it would be more clear.

Thanks for your help…

yes, I would definitely visit Trakai. Also, you really have to spend a little time in Vilnius. The hill of crosses near Siauliai would be interesting. The coast I don’t think will be very warm in April, so don’t go if you expect to lay on the beach, but the town of Klaipeda is really nice, and you’ll see some contrast in the german influence there as opposed to the rest of the country. Nida is ok, but it’s better in the summer when you can enjoy the sea and the sand more. In Vilnius, I would recommend going up to the hill of three crosses, there is an amazing view from there. Also, take some time to walk around the old town and uzupis areas, they are really beautiful. Hope that’s helpful :)

Thanks. I’m not much of a ‘lay on the beach’ person – just heard that the coastline and landscape around there is really nice!

I’ve still to sort out what I’m doing, but thanks for all the suggestions.

Trakai is a must!! Also – you may want to check out the Ninth Fort in Kaunas – once, while we were visiting there, another on-looker spotted his mother in one of the photos – very chilling. We have family in Kaunas and Vilnius – if you know someone the trip is usually much better. If you are interestd in history – Kaunas is rich with it.

Dear Phil,
Here are my “two cents”. Nida IS beautiful but April is an odd time to go. If you are a wild child like me venture in to Dead Dunes (also known as Gray Dunes-get a map from the visitors center)...it’s about 15-20 minute hike up the dunes but it’s all worth it and it’s breathtaking…Once you get all the way up, you can see both sides of the Sea.
Judging from your profile and incase you are wondering they do have an Internet cafe in Nida and it’s mad cheep.
You can also take a ride on the private yacht if that interests you…the boats are usually by the pier…try to catch the sunset.
Oh yeah, hope you like beer and smoked fish…cause there is plenty of it.
Finally, I am not sure how long you are staying in Vilnius and I am sure you have an itinerary of all the touristy stuff….there is one thing that is probably not on your agenda…go to the black market. This is one place in Vilnius that is still stuck in the Former Soviet Union. You can find just about anything there to buy but it’s also worth to just go there to “people watch”. (not to scare you or anything but obviously do hide your wallet)
bon voyage,
Greta

PS. Take lots of pictures…will be waiting patiently
