Brooklyn
I have taken a class or two at Pratt (not fully enrolled in the college), but only at the Manhattan campus. It was a photography class and it was taught very well, and the facilities were very nice.
Brooklyn is also a very nice place to live, for me. I agree that it is key to find a place near some subways, but that isn’t too hard. Unfortunately, prices for Brooklyn housing are going up a lot now, as people discover really neat neighborhoods around here. Gentrification and all that. I’m sure I’ve played a part in that.
Good luck, anyway. :)

I went to summer camp at Pratt YEARS ago. Started with photography, then drawing, got a winter scholarship, continued with computer classes…yada, yada, yada. As an adult, I don’t have any bad memories but I couldn’t tell you how good the curriculum is.
Pratt is in a really diverse, artsy neighborhood. The marathon passes through 1 block over from Dekalb Ave on Lafayette. I would definitely go see for myself, if I were you.
Hope this helps. =D
