Sorry, I have no idea, but there’s this huge open market open on the weekened. I’m sure they have nice stuff there.

Sorry, jaremfan. I’ve been there for about 2 weeks for business plus holidays. I must say that I’d probably follow jnerry’s advice and visit some of the open markets. If you don’t find what you like, you at least find some natives there who are very friendly and accomodating – at least on my trip there.

Find a friend in Bangkok, or at least enlist the help of a friendly taxi driver. If you want to experience Bangkok like a Thai, hire a motorcycle driver. They line up around popular places. Keep in mind that they may get a kickback from the merchants, but you get a guide to out-of-the-way places and an interpreter in addition to the transportation. They can take you to producers instead of retailers. If the seller speaks English, you may get a better deal by saying, “you’ll think about it,” then coming back later by yourself to do serious bargaining. Or, find what you like and have a Thai friend come back later to buy. As a friend said in a market in another city, “There is a fine for speaking English!”

Drop by the night (i would recommend suan lum bazaar) and weekend markets. You’ll probably see something there.

Try Silom Village, they have some very nice stuff. I was in Bangkok this summer, and already want to go back! This city is so great.

Hi, I’m a native Bangkok one.

I don’t know which style you want and budget you have. Anyway, Jatuchak Market is the most famous. I recommend if you need really Thai-local (ancient, wood, texture, etc.). Price is vary and there is oversea shipping service in most vendors.
You can go there by SkyTrain, Mochit station.

Next one is Suan Lum Night Bazaar. The style is like Jatuchak Market but it aims for tourist especially. Go there by Underground Lumpini station.

If you have many money to spend, I see few new and trendy interior designs open in Siam Paragon, newest and biggest department store in town. SkyTrain Siam.

thanks a lot guys… looks like it’s chatuchak, siam discovery, and suam lum. I’ve been to suam lum before and they have a lot of cute stuff there, but my local thai friends tell me that it’s for the tourists.

I LOVE 43PLACES!!!!!!

ok i’m back. everyone was pretty much on the ball for this one. Siam Discovery has some really unique designerish (and expensive, high quality) interior furnishings and decor. Habitat from the UK has even established its new Asia Pacific base there! I got their card, just in case I decide to be in the market for some high-end stuff.

I didn’t get to go to Chatuchak, because I wasn’t there over the weekend, but I hear that Suan Lum pretty much sells the same stuff at slightly higher prices (or less bargainable prices).... though I didn’t get anything, it’ll definitely help in planning my trip the next time….. and there will be a next time!

Thanks to everyone.
