HI There,
If you come from melbourne, Perth will seem small to you. There is hardly any CBD living, and everything is in the suburbs. To see what there is to do in perth, check out www.theguide.net.au it shows all bars, clubs, restaurants etc etc… Perth is very much a quiet and nice city. You are never very far from som stunning beaches. I recommend you go to the Rottnest island (30 minute ferry trip). it is stunning.

Perth is amazing! I studied abroad there for four months and after coming from a very small city (~6000 residents), I was surprised to find myself feeling right at home in Perth. The beaches are beautiful and Rottnest Island must be visited. Visit the town of Fremantle to see a side of older Australia! Enjoy your time there, I wish I could go back!

So much to do in and around Perth. Enjoy King’s Park, offering a beautiful vista of the city. Take a ride on a boat or ferry down the river. Rottnest Island, for sure. I did a night time candle light tour of a VERY old prison in Freo (Fremantle), and for sure for sure, don’t miss the coast and area south of Perth, Margaret River. Beautiful wine country. The wildflowers in the area north of Perth are world reknowned, and there are great tours to do. I loved the opportunity to stay at farms through farm stay programs and stayed on a working sheep farm.
Phew. I think that’s enough. Have a great time!

definitely make sure you go down south and do all of the tourist spots. what are you looking for? nightlife? cafe strips? libraries? what area are you going to live in? if youre young, i recommend scarborough. at some stage, you have to do the bell tower. australia day is HUGE in perth—get down to the foreshore and rock out. i used to love subiaco and leederville for nightlife.

I agree with what everyone has said. Perth is beautiful. If you plan on driving around in Perth City: The one thing I wasn’t prepared for was the lack of parking in the city (CBD) or should I say free parking. We could only find parking in parking lots that can cost an arm and a leg! Otherwise it’s great driving around (not much traffic) once you get used to all the one way streets. Oh, and almost everything is closed on Public Holidays! Otherwise, I can’t fault Perth, it’s relaxing, friendly and not to forget absolutely beautiful! I know you’ll have a great time.

Like everyone has said, Perth is a very relaxed but very beautiful city.
I have lived there my whole life and what I really enjoy is just ambling around and visiting different shops and cafes and places.
My favourite places: Fremantle coffee strip (spend many a sunny weekend here), UWA (beautiful gardens), the Canning River along the freeway (beautiful sunsets), Cottesloe beach, Busselton (3hrs from the city).
Fremantle is my favourite place to go out, it’s got a lot more atmosphere than Perth city does. So get out and about, make friends with locals is the easiest way to do it, and everyone is very friendly so you’ll be fine! Have fun!

hey thanks for that…
Do you reccommed living or staying in ‘Freo’ to start off with? is it full of backpackers?

Perth
The Perth metro area is really suburban, so most people live in the suburbs. Are you looking at renting or staying in a hotel/backpackers?
Freo isn’t full of backpackers, it’s filled with locals, so it’s a great place to stay. Any of the suburbs around it are pretty nice too, I recommend you live south of “the river”; but that’s just a natural bias.

XD I recommend you stop writing in caps.
In other news, try to find a place in areas like Mount Lawley and close to the city.
and ‘d say go see kings park. It’s bloody beautiful.
