NOPE! they have strong laws against it… but everyone seems to look the other way and it is everywhere.

Absolutely NOT! And if they catch a tourist, you will be in big trouble. Be safe – don’t do it.

It is illegal. However my friend and I found it easily. We asked the doorman. The police over there carry M16’s so yeh, don’t get caught with it.

No It is illegal. You may have marijana growing in your backyard, but you must not smoke it. The police like to interrogate people for it and builders like to make a profit. Do not think that rastas are aloud why cannot I smoke. Rastas pay the police, the ones in tuff gong anyway! sssshhhh!!!

It is not legal! But the stuff tends to fall from the sky and land in your lap - just kidding! :) The vendor that sells wood carvings at our resort hooked us up. Just lay low & don’t get caught!

Despite what everyone else said, it is legal. There is no smoking or drinking age there. However, it is still illegal for Americans to posses it. There are 10 year old boys walking around Jamaica packing ganja. At the resorts it may be illegal, but inner-city it is not.

Very much illegal. I carefully researched this topic before going myself and found that to be the case.

However, that said, it might as well not be illegal for the easy access there is to it right off the plane. No lie, the very first Jamaican we talked to after clearing customs (but still at the airport) asked us a single question, “are you guys set up yet?” It was so blatant I couldn’t believe he was asking what he was. But, to his annoyance and my surprise, the ensuing conversation proved that he was asking what I thought he was.

Every cab driver asked us if we needed anything, and said he had “the good stuff, cheap.” Seriously, the only people who didn’t offer us pot were the cleaning staff of the motel we stayed at and a tour guide we had when we toured what they call “water falls” (nothing compared to the water falls we have in the States.

How blatantly the law is flaunted may have much to do with where you go and what time of year you go there. We went to Negril (home of the famed Seven Mile Beach—literally seven miles of white, beautiful, warm beach) in August. It was an excellent time.

If you go, don’t be an idiot about it and you should be fine. We’d only smoke at night in the privacy of our own patio. We may have also enjoyed some “protection” from anyone really caring by staying at a native-owned hotel—which was nice but not as ritzy as a resort. However, I suppose they’d go out of their way to “protect” their guests. After all, the security guard said that if we wanted ANYTHING, just ask.

An outstanding tourist destination; but when you go, respect the people and the country and behave yourself (within limits), and you’ll do just fine.

Yes it is illegal, however, just like in America there are places and ways to get this stuff and ways to get around the law. But…..if you get caught as a tourist, shit your out of luck!

totally illegal but i went to a resort with little shanty towns to either side and you can’t walk five inches without someone coming up to you, complimenting your clothes, shades etc then asking if you need anything. They were very nice and totaly safe, they rely on the tourists in the hotel to buy their trinkets and souvenirs from the huts so they aren’t going to screw anyone. This pic was taken in a guys hut direct on the beach. I met him the first day I was there and we met up a few times a day to chat, smoke and have a warm red stripe. Generally speaking play safe (and hide it in the freezer compartment of your hotel fridge – no smell)

Have fun but be safe.

It doesn’t matter if it’s legal or not…it’s VERY easy to get. I got some on the beach at the resort. Dude was peddling jet skis and weed. Gave me a package price!
