First of all… if you plan to go outside of Caracas… you should go get a Yellow Fever shot first. This is an important precaution to take.
Next, If you do not speak Spanish… it is important to know about the difference between legit Cabs and personal cabs. When you get off at the airport, there will be tons of people trying to hustle you into a cab. You need to take precautions to get into a legitimate cab. You will find this at the official taxi stand in the FRONT of the airport. Do not allow people to help you with your baggage, since they will most likely want money in return. The airport of Caracas is a little bit scary the first time you see it, so just be aware of your surroundings.
I don’t want to scare you away from Venezuela, but you need to be mindful… especially at the airport. Once you are out in the country, things are great!
You listed the main points of interest already… but you had one glaring omission. That is Isla Margarita. This is definitely a place you will want to check out. Be sure to look it up and try to go.
If you plan on staying in Caracas, I recommend the Hotel Centro Lido. It is beautiful… and has an English speaking staff. Centrally located and easy access to Taxi’s and the Subway.
Also… Venezuela has a lot of sushi restrants. Try them out, you get to experience a new twist on sushi. Also, the Venezuela version of Tapas are really simple, good, daily food. Its sort of a basic sandwitch of verious cheese, and meat on a little dough. Give these a try…
Good luck, and have a safe and fun trip =)

Los Roques it’s just AMAIZING!
White sand, light blue sea.. and a sun burning upside your shoulders.
Take an excellent sun protection.
During my visit i went to ChoronÃ, it’s very nice, and in a previous visit i went to isla margarita but it isn’t so nice because it’s too much “commercial” or touristic and in my case, i prefer beaches that are no so typical. (well los roques is now top of the beaches but.. no as much exploted as Margarita).
If you are planning to go to Los Roques the airline “Aerotuy” take you there and they offer hotel and all inclusive plans, it’s very nice. I recommend to stay 3 days or 4 there.
If you want i can send you my pictures from this trip. I stayed in Venezuela for 3 weeks. Send me your e-mail.
Good Luck and enjoy it!
Try the “cachapas de jojoto con queso de mano” the arepas de “pernil con queso amarillo” (food) and for drink: ron!

I’d love to see pictures and hear more. A friend’s professor has a house down there and may let us stay for a week or 2 this July.
