A question about this place:
What are job possibilities for a woman who has bachelor's degree and wants to work in Finland for a year?

It’s hard to say, but in general terms (and I only know about the IT industry), in most of the northern countries, if you have good work experience, references, and good language skills, that often outweighs whatever your degree is. Unless you’re going after something very specialised.

Being multilingual really is a big plus, since many of the big international companies work primarily in English, but if you can speak others too, that’s even better.

That said, I’ve only worked in Finland briefly (consulting type things, or week long trips). But I know quite a few expats who live and work there, and do quite fine.

Well, and that was non-commital wasn’t it :) I guess at some point you just have to take the plunge and try. Best of luck in any case.

Thanks for advice.
I was thinking about working as a teacher but am not sure whether BE is enough to teach English there..

It really depends greatly on what sort of work you want to do. Your country’s embassy in Finland may have some good business leads.

On a different note, why do you want to work in Finland? After living there for a year myself I can think of MANY other places that might be better to spend time in (Sweden or Denmark, for example). ;)

Why? I love Finland and want to have some time to visit all of the places there, especially Kuopio, Lahti, Rovaniemi since they’re connected with my fav sport -ski jumping :)
Why do u think it’s better to go to Sweden than Finland?

My experience is quite minor, but for what I know people who don’t speak Finnish at all have quite a hard time finding a job in Finnland. I was just applying myself for a job, teaching English to children from kindergarten age to school age. They for example don’t require Finnish skills.

I didn’t get the job, it was just the other day and to tell the truth I’m not sure if I really want it ‘cause I may have other plans. But that site was http://www.speakingout.fi/view.php?loc_id=4
if you are interested. (If that doesn’t work, just try speakingout.fi)

is the address where you want to look for a job when you’re in Finland, unfortunately it is only available in Finnish and Swedish. In the place ‘Kunta’ you write the town or city you want to work and then just hit the button ‘Etsi’. (=Find) If you’re lucky, you find something in English too.
You can ask me if you need translation somewhere.

One thing I did when I was in Helsinki was correct/proofread theses for University students. Many disciplines require English theses now, or students will write them in English anyway for publication.
I was able to find a couple jobs under the table by word of mouth, but I was a student and wasn’t looking for a full time job. Apparently the usual rate is quite high (I definitely didn’t charge enough), but I’m not sure how you’d go about getting into one of the agencies. Worth checking out though.
