Hmmm…that’s a tough question. Oregon is a big state that is diverse and vast. Where in Oregon are you wanting to go? Portland, Oregon Coast, Mountains?

Eugene is a great town, but you have to put up with a bit of patchouli—er, I mean, “free-spirited” people. As someone who grew up around Boulder, Colorado, it wasn’t too big a culture shock for me. Actually, I love Eugene…there’s a lot to do around the town, and nearby, as well.

Its funny you say Eugene because thats a place i would reccomend going to if you are into taht sorta thing. For the coast line is just enough to make me happy. As a gypsy traveler my heart is set on nature and beautiful sencery which a drive up the coast is wonderfual stop and stay at a bed and breakfast.

If it’s Portland you’re visiting, I was going to say Powell’s, but I think you should check out a Portland Timber’s Soccer game and sit in section 107. Remember, wear green.

Eat: eat at Old Wives Tale. MMMm I want their salad bar right now.

I suggest you visit Portland. Go to the Burnside area of town. Visit Powell’s books, both branches are good if you’re into nerd stuff. The pizza across the street from Powells is pretty good. Catch a show at the Paris theater (if you’re into the kind of live music playing at the time) and go see a movie at the Baghdad cafe.

I’m not sure if the farmers market is running this time of year but it’s very nice as well.

My visit was during July along the southern Oregon coast. One of my favorite places was the Rogue River. You can take a mail boat ride up the river. There’s great fishing near the coast. I just stopped at all the little coastal towns and went to the bookstores, festivals and hiked a bit. If you hike on a coastal trail, don’t forget it is VERY windy – you might want to cover your ears. Have a good time!

Cannon Beach is the bomb. Slow, relaxed, chill. But more than that, it has the best pizza this side of Chicago. Pizza a feta. Don’t forget it. Write it on your forhead backwards (or your significant other’s forhead).

Seriously, you can’t get any better.

If I can only name one thing, I would say make sure you drive along at least part of the coast, if not the entire length. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve been.

I’d say if you’re going to the Portland area, Powell’s Books is incredible. If you’re a musician, Apple Music is pretty neat to go to, also. Haven’t eaten much in the north part of the state, so I’m no help there.

If you’re going to the southern part of the state, definitely stop and see Crater Lake. Actually, even if I was just going to Portland, I might make the special trip to see Crater Lake. It’s absolutely breathtaking. Callahan’s, near Ashland, is a nice place to eat. Ali’s Thai Kitchen is a little hole-in-the-wall in Medford, but they make great Thai food. And the Black Sheep Pub in Ashland is a great little English-style pub with some great food, if that’s not too much of an oxymoron.

I would second Powell’s Bookstore in Portland and the Astoria Bridge in Astoria.

Well, this all depends on where you’re going and what you like.

As far as places: Powell’s Bookstore (in Portland), the ocean view in Oceanside is astounding (Google Map Link), and I like Waterfront Park (in Portland) a lot. There is lots and lots of hiking, some skiing, and plenty of other outdoor type things too if that’s your thing.

As far as food: Le Bistro Montage (kinda Cajun), Hung Far Low (Chinese), and The Blue Nile (Ethiopian) are all good (all in Portland). You can easily find any of these withha quick Google search.

Anyhow, I think we could probably help a little more if we had a better grasp on your itenerary.

Portland is a must if you’re into city life, and all that jazz.
Crater Lake is a beautiful place, it’s worth the trip.
Anywhere on the Oregon Coast.
And for the sake of promoting my own town, Bend is a great place with lots of different places to eat and events going on year round.

Oh my goodness Powell’s. When I lived in Seaside (town between Astoria and Cannon Beach) we would beg our parents to drive us to Portland so we could spend all day in Powell’s. Anyways if you’re looking for a city I’d say Portland…or Eugene if you’re a hippie like that or Ashland. Oh how has this not been mentioned yet. During the summer there is a Shakesperean Play Festival in Ashland. It was one of the best things of my life, but if you go to the outdoor theatre and although it is hot during the day it is freezing in that theatre. The Northcoast is quite awesome as well though. Astoria is the oldest town west of Mississippi, and is close to Fort Clatsop where Lewis and Clark stayed while they were exploring Oregon and such. The Astoria column is pretty nifty as well and you can fly paper airplanes off of it..to eat there I’d say the Columbia Cafe, for Blue bread and red pepper jelly. Oh there is also Fort Stevens in Hammond its an old military base that’s pretty neat. Cannon Beach rocks my socks as does Pizza A Feta (Ask for Frank he’s my buddy)go to Ecola State Park, for surfing swimming, or hiking. Or go down to Oswald West State Park where you can camp damn close to the beach. Seaside is okay, has bumper cars and you can get a 75cent Tillamook ice cream cone, there also are some pretty good resturaunts, Doogers which has so damn good clam chowder. And yeah that’s about all I know.

2. Eugene (eat @ The Zenon & you’ll be plesantly surprized). Also, make sure to see the pioneer cemetary. Nobody ever mentions this as an attraction (it is unkept and hidden, but contains the graves of some of the first settlers to venture out on the Oregon Trail).

3. Vineyards of the Willamette Valley (some of the best Pinot Noir in the world). The International Pinot Noir Festival is held here July 28, 29, 30 2006. Tickets go on sale in Feb and sell out immediately, so if you’re interested, check out their web site.

4. Bend – The old west meets Snowboard Camp.

5. Portland – Too much to list – one of America’s coolest cities for sure. Don’t miss a dinner at Clark Lewis in S.E. Portland.

6. Newport Beach – or rather, just North of this costal town are some of the West Coast’s most spectacular drives along the Pacific Coast HWY.

Well, everyone is touting the coast, as they should. It’s beautiful and there is nothing like it elsewhere in the world (at least that I’ve seen). So I will mention a few inland things to change it up a bit. One: Otis Cafe. In Otis. Tiny little place, unbelievable atmoshpere. It’s hard to describe, but you will never quite look at cafe dining the same afterwards. The cooks are unparalleled, and the patrons all seem to follow some secret code of respect and patience. You must witness it. Two: Tillamook—coolest cheese factory in the world. Go there to see how everything Tillamook is made, and then try the delicious samples. Tillamook is the most revered western cheesemaker. :) Three: I can’t believe no one has mentioned crater lake to you yet! Do some googling on it, the specs are amazing. It’s the deepest lake in the… state? Country? hemisphere? I’m not sure, but the shade of blue will boggle your mind. It was created when the ancient Mt. Mazama exploded. Take a trip down to the little island inside it; it is spooky and gorgeous. Have a great time!
