i don’t know if you know the website of Couchsurfing project. I really do recommend you to join the community and look for some hosts. You stay at their place for free, they can recommend you the cheap and nice places in their city but, best of all,you get to know great locals, build new friendships and share your experiences with other human beings! That’s great and fun! :)

I also would highly recommend Couchsurfing. Join and get involved in the online community a little bit before you try to find a place to stay, because there are many people on couch surfing who don’t look kindly on people using it just for the free accommodations. It’s meant more to be a community-building opportunity for people to meet other like-minded people throughout the world and build friendships. It’s extra nice if you have something to offer potential hosts – do you cook well? Offer to make evening meals for whoever hosts you. Do you know how to cut hair? Play an instrument? Fix things around the house? Speak another language? Offer those things and also expect to receive a lot of good insider information from your host. Go into the couchsurfing experience looking to share something and make friends and it will be super rewarding.
