I found that in terms of getting from place to place it was fairly easy because they tend to have a lot of signs in English, especially the train lines.

Most of the Japanese people we encountered were friendly and a few offered to help when they saw we were a bit confused or lost. Some of the older Japanese people weren’t as fond of tourists and I got yelled at once for taking a picture inside a temple. I deleted that photo straight away because I felt so bad.
