If your question asks whether it’s safe to go to Japan now when there are radiation scares, that’s a qualified yes. I would stick to Tokyo or south of Tokyo (Osaka, Kyoto, etc) or even further south than that. A friend of mine is currently in Tokyo and having a great time.

Unfortunately, going much further south than Fukuoka (for example) the sakura have already passed their prime for this year.

If you don’t mind waiting until next year, it’ll probably be much safer.

if you are still wondering… GO. The irises are out now and it is beautiful. There are no tourists in japan but it is totally safe… all the hotels are empty!
