I just did the opposite in January from Lima to Ollantayatmbo, Cuzco, Macchu Picchu, Mancora Beaches, and Ecuador (Guayanquil and left out of Quito). While I didn’t do much in Ecuador but travel thru I did so by bus which was way cheaper. The flights within Peru were kind of expensive (over $200) so I stuck to the main bus lines. If you are coming through the north down south, then I would stop in Mancora which has cool surfing beaches and cheap lodging. I got an apt for $20nt. The ceviche (fresh seafood like sashimi but better and more lemony) there and in Lima are to die for. Then head to Ollaytaytambo for an authentic Incan feel and then go to Cuzco for a day to then go to Machu Picchu from there. you have to book the 4 day hike months in advance but for the day trip, you can get tix the day before. If you are a girl traveling alone, the bus rides might be sketchy esp at night and all the buses make more stops than they claim, even if it says “direct”. Finally, remember to ask for AC or a window seat if you’re there during the hot months.
