Ninja Neko asks,

“I'll be going to the north of India in a month (Delhi, Agra and Rajasthan). What (women's) clothing should I wear, is showing knees and shoulders really not done? I have modest dresses but the hemline is on my knees. Acceptable or cover up?”

Welcome dear tourist to India. Clothing is absolutely not a problem in north india. U can wear anything comfortable though not much revealing.. Delhi has has a cosmopolitan culture so clothing wont be an issue. Agra and rajastan are cultural places, so jeans and tshirt or even skirt would be ok. One thing you need to take care is of your belonging and follow instructions to fellow good indian. Lots of shopping and good people coming your way.

I just returned from India and what I can tell you is that while you can get away with western clothing (jeans, tshirts, etc), most Indian women do not show knees and shoulders. (I didn’t see any women show them during my time there, and I traveled the golden triangle) You’ll just get stared at more than you already will. I felt out of place even in my v-neck, body hugging t-shirts and opted to wear layers and scarves most of my trip there. It’s worth buying some tunics when you’re there, they’re cheap and comfortable.

Thanks for the info! That’s exactly what I needed to know. I usually dress in body hugging v-neck tees too so thanks for the warning :) I’ll bring a long skirt and I’ll keep my eye out for tunics when I’m there!
