You should check out Agoda.com.

They have really good specials all over Asia. I usually use them when I go to Asia.

Mongkok, Kowloon is where I stayed and it was a really nice location. I dont know about cheap places to stay, as I stayed in a hotel, but Im sure thee are heaps of backpackers places / cheap hotels….. try: www.asiahotelpass.com

As Well it is a 10 minute taxi ride to Lang kwai fong (central Hongkong).

ohh and Mongkok is far cheaper than central hong kong …. and I reacon a nicer place to be.

Have a good trip.

I’m thinking about that Mongkok as well. It seems to have quite cheap motels. The cheapest ones were in Chungking mansions, but I am a bit intimidated about the place so I rather would stay away from there.

Thanks.

What’s your budget?

For solo traveller… it’s hard to find any cheap one-bedroom hotel.

Check out this:

http://www.wotif.com/search/TextSearch?searchTerms=hong+kong&country=HK&stlcmpid=50041

See if you can find anything good. For motel/hostel, I think the hostels at ChungKing are not that bad (HKD 180 or so for a night) if you are gonna be out for a whole day (the ladies at Cosmic Hostels are very nice, can search on hostelworld.com and they have their own site). There are quite a lot of people wandering around that area at night, but there are guards at the gate. So I won’t be too worried. Just be alert, as usual, especially when travelling alone.

For low-cost hotel, I heard Bridal Tea (single room HKD 380 or so, http://www.hkchhotel.com/) is not bad at all.

Depends if you want to stay on Kowloon side or HK Island side… if Kowloon side, Yau Ma Tei/Mong Kok isn’t bad either, you may feel it’s not as “nice/high end” as HK Island, but there are more low-cost places. TST is usually not cheap but it’s extremely convenient.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for those hints! I will check those out. Of course the cheapest is the best for my budget, but I think I will be ready to pay 150€ per 5 nights. I found the cheapest hostels at Chungking for 77€ per 5 nights. But I have my doubts for the whole place :/ I probably will spend most of the time outside, so I really only need a place where to sleep, have a shower and storage my stuff. So it doesn’t need to be anything fancy.

I found some hostels at Mong Kok that were quite cheap, so I might take one of those. There was also one at Causeway Bay that I am thinking about. But I haven’t decided yet.

Yeah, it looks nice, but it’s a bit too expensive. I want a private room.

This one seems famous, as always see some budget traveler walk around there and i just live nearby.

In Hong Kong Island side, this price seems attractive due to the living rate is every high here.

Hi, i am live in Hong Kong. May i know that how much do you expected?

And which area would you like to stay? Moreover, which place will you want to visit?

Hello! Around HK$ 200-250 per night would be great. I am not sure what area would be great, just it needs to be close some public transportations so I can move there easily. My friend is studying at Hong Kong University, so I think it would be great that it doesn’t take too long for her to travel to meet me.

Currently I am thinking about getting a hostel from Mong Kok. I would out that the cheapest places are in Chungking mansions, but I am a bit intimidated about the place. I wonder if it really is that restless place as I have read…

If you have any suggestions what I should see or perhaps where I should eat etc. I would appreciate that! :) Any other kind of hints would be great too.

Chungking Mansions is located as TST (Tsim Sah Tsui), 3 more MTR stations south from Mongkok. And this area have many African and South Asian around which not good in public safety.

As your friend is in HKU (mid lv), Hong Kong Island side. that would be better stay in Causeway Bay or North Point which only 30 mins bus ride.
