Paris, Ile de France

Smidgeon asks,

“Quick question: I've been recommended having crêpes and cider from Normandie at Rue de Montparnasse, but I don't know if the person was talking about a restaurant there or not. Anyone who knows that street?”

There will be many restaurants in the area.

Note that “crepes” are more a dessert and “galettes” will be the main course.

Enjoy !

There are lots of crêpe restaurants in the area (people coming from Brittany arrived through the Montparnasse train station and settled there. Lots of them opened crêpe restaurants).

You will also find crêpe booths, which are similar to hot dog stands, but for crepes. They’re much cheaper, and I really like the experience, but they typically don’t sell cider. This being said, you could buy a whole bottle of cider in a grocery store for about 2-3 Euros, and it’s legal to drink it outside.

So if you want a sit-in restaurant, you have a bunch of options, but I would suggest going for the booth if you want to eat on a bench in the park or while taking a walk for instance. I find it’s very nice to do with friends. If you’re interested, here is a map of crêpe stands all over Paris: http://www.paris-crepes.fr/?page_id=10

Thank you very much. I ended up going to a crêpe restaurant where the waiter had never heard of such a thing as cider from Normandie, so I don’t know if there is any around there… Anyhow, next time I’ll just bring the crêpe map. ;)
