Hi, I can’t suggest a hotel for a family since I only went to Paris with my girlfriend. However, do avoid the Armstrong hotel, it was a bit disappointing. I’d recommend to look for a small hotel or some sort of bed&breakfast. Large hotels are usually no good.

If you are visiting the usual sights, it is quite far out of the way; but that whole neighborhood (except for Père-Lachaise) is quite undiscovered by the tourist world, and there are many excellent-value (and excellent-quality) restaurants to be found there. — Notworthwords

The best hotel, dollar for dollar, in Paris is the Hotel Jeanne d’Arc in the Marais district. Last time I stayed there in 2007 it was $90 a night with an en suite bath. They are usually just outside city limits but there is an invaluable one on the rue Jean Jaurès in Paris 19th Arrondissement, not far from Gare du Nord and easily reached by Métro (Jaurès) in a wonderful area far from tourist traps. — Manon

A friend and I found the lovely Hôtel de la Porte Dorée in a quiet corner of Paris called Porte Dorée. We enjoyed their many fine shops and huge public park in that neighborhood, and were able to get into the city very quickly by Métro. I believe our room was less than 90 euros. We have traveled to Paris many times with our children. When they were very young (6-8) we stayed at Novotel in Les Halles. Location is central, rooms are large and they have cribs if you need one. They have children’s dinners that begin around 6:00 for little ones who get hungry early. It is reasonably priced and very child friendly.

It’s very affordable for Paris.

I have a home about 45 minutes outside of Paris. When i want to stay overnight, I often stay here. It’s clean, very friendly, with a great location close to the Montparnasse station. It’s also a very quiet neighborhood. This is unusual for a less pricey hotel in Paris. Usually, the cheaper the hotel, the noisier the street it’s on. Not true with this one. You will have to walk about three blocks from the train station, but it’s not a big problem. It’s a very good value and you can easily get to the sights via the metro. Keep in mind that in Paris the rooms are SMALL. Even in the priciest hotels, the rooms are much smaller than what an American traveller is used to. However, in this hotel, the rooms are well appointed and spotless (most important thing!). It’s a basic hotel but provides everything a traveller needs.

I travel to Paris 2-3 times a year. The best deals I’ve found have been on (believe it or not) the Paris Craigslist page, under “Sublets/Temporary”. For a stay lasting more than a week… with a washer/dryer and a full dose of immersion, this alternative to staying in hotels is phenomenally cheaper and much more comfortable.
