In Scarborough i’d start with the local beaches. most of ME’s beaches are rocky so they are different then most people from away are used to but around Scarborough there are some sand beaches.
i’d also go to the Saco River. be careful it’s deceivingly powerful.
I’d say go to Freeport too it’s quaint. L.L. Bean is fun for kids too. i’m not huge on the crowds but Bean’s is always open and usually busy. They are open 24 hours too. they have concerts in the summer and workshops for outdoor adventures too. I’d also take the kids to Yarmouth on route 1 to DeLorme the home of Eartha. a huge globe!!!
