A question about this place:
I'd really like to see the Taj Mahal - any advice on doing that rather cheap?

There’s probably no way to do it cheaply. I knew people that went through travel agencies and I knew people that did it independently, and the prices were comparable (the agencies were obviously higher, but they didn’t save exponentially doing it alone).
If you’ve got the cash, try and go. If you don’t have the cash, you can try and do what I did, which was to take a day visiting Pondicherry and Auroville.

I guess that really depends on where in India you were headed! I spent most of my time in Chennai, and the Taj is almost halfway across the country from there! If seeing the Taj is your primary motivator, you might think about staying in Agra or even New Delhi!

I’m taking a trip through UV, and we are stopping in Chennai. I’d just like to be able to see the Taj, but it’s not my main motivator. I think I’ll just have to skip it! There’s so much I’d rather do than spend my time traveling to the Taj Mahal!
