I’m sorry, I don’t know. I just stayed for a weekend in Hamburg and I just saw a small part of this big city.

You can usually find a limited selection of new English books in most larger bookstores in dowtown Hamburg, or the bookstores located in the main train station Haubtbahnhof, or Mercado Marketplace at the Altona train station.
Otherwise, there is a funny little 3 room shop called “The English Bookshop and British Foods” located directly across the street, and 20 meters to the LEFT of the HOLSTENSTRASSE S-Bahn Station; they specialize in used books from England and the USA, and the atmosphere is messy, cluttered, and charming. The address is;
(S-Bahn Holstenstrasse, use Stresemanstr. exit))
Stresemanstrasse 169
22769 Hamburg, Germany

I used to live there about 5 years ago and there was an awesome international bookstore in the basement of the ‘Colon Language Center’ on Colonaden (cute little walking street not too far from Jungfernstieg). Spent A LOT of money in that bookstore!

Indeed,
both shops mentioned above sell books in English. You don’t have to find an “American” bookshop in Hamburg to find books in English.
Apart from the English Bookshop at 169 Stresemannstrasse and the Colón Language Center bookstore in Colonnaden Street, which also has books in other lanugages, there is the Marissal Bookshop (Marissal Bücher) located inside a little mall called Landesbank Galerie. It’s right on Gerhard-Hauptmann Square where Spitalerstrasse and Mönckebergstrasse almost meet.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you can always order.
You can also find specific books in English dealing with music and composers at Bartels Noten located at Grosse Theaterstr. 43 just around the corner from the Colón bookstore. It’s a lovely shop with an extensive offer of books dealing with music/composers/and sheet music for classical musicians.
Cheers, Hamburg is a great city! Szx.
