A question about this place:
I'm working on the Cork dialect for training actors. Would any people from Cork be willing to let me record them while chatting over the phone? (I'm also hoping to visit with my family in summer 2010.)

Hi Jim! I’m impressed that someone is actually making an effort to figure the accent out, especially after the travesty that was Cork’s appearance in ‘Heroes’.

I don’t have the most typical Cork accent myself, but I wouldn’t mind taking part. I can also try to source someone with a more typical accent, if you’d like?

Here’s a funny but fairly accurate take on the accent :)

And an entire series of an American trying to fit in, in a working class area of Cork (Warning: quite full of swearing!)

I’m all over it! Thanks, Gavin! I can actually record people by calling them on their own phone via Skype on my computer, and the quality’s not too bad. If you’d like, you can email me at gmail-it’s my username. If you’re wanting to check me out a bit, you can find that I teach in theatre at the University of Houston-Jim Johnson. If you have friends who might be willing, I’d love to get a number of recordings to hear what’s similar about them and what varies. Thanks for your offer!!!
