A question about this place:
Where does everyone recommend I stay that is comfortable (has own bathroom) and not too expensive (under $70/night)?

There are lodges and cabins inside the park that are 64.00 and up. You need to reserve well in advance, as they book up quickly. We really enjoyed our stays at Canyon Lodge and at Mammoth Hot Springs. It was wonderful to be inside the park and not have to drive in every day. I want to visit Yellowstone again, and I would definitely stay at one of the lodges. They are run by Xanterra Parks and Resorts.

I second the recommendation for the cabins in particular as they are inexpensive, yet very comfortable. They aren’t all that fancy, but a wonderful place to stay nonetheless!!

Book now if you plan to go during summer 2009 or you won’t get a spot. It might already be too late!

(and, btw, I am very jealous … I’d love to be yellowstoning again this summmer….)

We stayed in Jackson one day, woke up early, and headed 90min north. The other days we were in Gardiner. If you make RSVP in time you could stay at the Inn at Old Faithful. It’s not expensive, but huge waiting list. Ideally, staying within the park is best but Gardiner worked out well for us.

Yeps,

We’ll be coming in from the East, staying in Cody one night, in the park at Mammoth Hot Springs Lodge the next and then just at the Yellowstone Village Inn (I think it’s called—the one right at the entrance with the Roosevelt Arch) in Gardiner. Thanks for the recommendations. Most hotels in the park were already booked and this is for the beginning of June!

We always stay at super 8 motel found just outside the park. Cheap and nice.
