I am not sure. I stayed a 4 star all inclusive. It was the Sun Palace. It was pretty nice. The food gets old if you stay a while as they dont change much. Other than that, I would recommend the place as a 4 star.

Hope that helps!

We stayed at the Marriott Casa Magna while there. It’s rated 4 star, not 5. The sister property – the JW Marriott – is a 5. They are adjacent and you have privileges to the pool and common areas staying at the Casa Magna. I’m pretty picky about hotels and we loved it. The surroundings were beautiful, the service was very good, the location was great and the room was very comfortable although not very large. Considering the price difference, I was very happy with our choice and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again on the next trip down there.

I stayed at the Solymar. I didn’t think it was much above a Motel 6 in quality. I wasn’t too fond of being awakened at 7am one day so the guy could spray our room for bugs. However, I didn’t stay at the hotel very much, we were off to different places pretty much every day. I’d research the websites for the hotels and read reviews on each. And keep in mind that a 5-star there is equal to about a 3-4 star in the States.

I stayed at Oasis Akumal, just south of Cancun… It was amazing! On one side is the white sand and clear blue ocean, on the other side is the jungle – So exotic! It was an ‘All Inclusive’ meaning drinks, food and most activities included. The staff was so friendly and hospitable and the atmosphere was great, there was so much to do at the resort/hotel you didn’t have to leave! They offered day trips into the jungle and ocean, the food was tereffic and oh yeah the room was good too, but the only time you really spend in the room is to sleep.

I stayed at the Casa Maya with my husband for our honeymoon. It was awesome! The place was my parents’ timeshare and was a wedding gift. It’s a nice place for families. But..we hung out at the Ritz Carlton and that is definately a 5-star hotel! So beautiful, and with the most amazing service! You lay on your lounge chair and raise your little flag to request service, and your waiter will come to you right away to take your drink order. Then he comes back soon after with a refreshing beverage on a silver tray. Bitchin’ place!

I’m not sure. I’ve always stayed in all inclusive 4-star hotels. We always chose 4-star hotels b/c we figured the atmosphere would be a little more down-to-earth and laid back…which it was! I do have a good friend that always stays at the Ritz though, and she says that it’s a great place. When it comes down to it, you really want to look at the locations of the hotels to choose the one that’s right for you. We always wanted to stay in a hotel that was either on, or very close to the main strip b/c of it’s easier access. Those beaches are also better in my opinion b/c they’re free of rocks and less prone to seaweed growth due to the heavy traffic.

I stayed at at Barcelo Maya beach resort all inclusive five stars. I thought that it was amazing. I couldnt have asked for a better hotel. The food was great, the hotel was clean, the staff was very nice, and the beach was absolutley fantastic. I stayed there August 2005 for a week, and i would definetley come back there again.

Gran Caribe Real was AWESOME

Our room was 10 steps from the beach, and 12 steps from the bar. :)
