A question about this place:
For a curious Texan who has spent serious time in Ontario, how does life in Calgary compare to life in Toronto?

I spent 4 months living in Toronto this summer (well Mississauga to be exact). Calgary is a large enough city to support everything someone could expect from a city (ie: food, shopping, night life, leisure activities… etc)

It is however 6 times smaller in terms of population than Toronto. As such, there are less competitions between businesses to provide low cost goods when compared to Toronto. Despite of the 3 hours drive to the USA boarder, there are no good shopping/tourism places at the boarder similar to Buffalo, NY.

For fun, we don’t have tons of cottages or lakes that people can go to. Instead, we have Banff National Park and other park of the Rockies Mountains to visit for camping, skiing etc….

The major economy in Calgary is Oil and Gas instead of the Manufacturing/Automobile.

Hopefully, this will provide a fair and non-bias of Calgary when compared to Toronto.

Thanks, that’s a good perspective!
(Houston is also Oil and Gas territory.)

Hi Kate,

I am in agreement with Samm, Calgary is a different city than Toronto, less populated and different activities. If you are considering moving here please email me and let me know. I know it can take a bit to become adjusted to a new city and always helpful to at least know someone who can help you out.
