I’m more familiar with buses going to Banaue from Baguio or Manila.
There are some inns where you can check in there so there is no need to pick the expensive Banaue Hotel (since I take it that people go to Banaue for the adventure). But there is no reason for you to stay in Banaue for long. After going to the viewpoint, go immediately to Batad. Or better yet, go to Sagada.

Probably going to follow your advice as we are only in Banaue for the views. Sagada seems interesting as well so its probably going to be on the journey.
