I guess it’s too late for a reply, and you may have experienced it first hand by now, but Molise in wintertime is pretty cold—sometimes freezing. In Rome temperatures are milder. Consider that in Campobasso it can get to below zero, while in Rome it usually stays in the 3-15°C range (with a bunch of cold days between January and February).
