Carol asks,

“I'm heading there this week. Is Table Mountain accessible other than cable (which is not working I hear). We're touring up the coast & to wine country...any must sees? Heading to Phinda later in trip. Thanks”

Hopefully you will love it as much as I did! There were people walking up table mountain so I recall, however I am not sure. We climbed up Lions head, the peak next to table mountain and that was an impressive view of Cape Town and table mountain, that was phenomenal!! I attached a pic I took from the top! Be careful if you do it, it gets steep at the top and requires some guts!

Hi ya,

The first time I went to Table Mountain the cable car was closed because of the bad weather conditions that was occuring on the mountain. The following day it was open, whilst it was really still windy the cable car was operational and I have couples of wonderful hours up there.

However, I have to say, if I could do it again, I would really like to hike up as the views are really breath taking.

Carol,

There are several ways up. We hiked from the back side – from Kirstenbosch – the national botanical garden – worth a trip itself. Long hike, though, fyi.

I imagine you can hike up from the cable car road somewhere as well…

Hi, the cable car is working, not sure where you heard these rumours. They may close due to bad weather, but they are currently running.

Hi Carol

I live in Port Elizabeth but there are different routes up the mountain best thing is to ask at the info centre and they can give u good information as well as the place u stay.

If u r going up the Garden Route contact me and I can advise u where to stay and road conditons

you must drive to the cape of good hope via kommitkje. it is an amazing drive and one of the neatest natural sites i have ever seen.
