Makena beach is the utmost beach – golden sand, beautiful walk in through trees, sea turtles off to the far right side of the beach. If you have the inclination, you might visit the Grand Wailea Resort for a spa treatment. It’s right up the road. Also just south of Makena is a great snorkling spot called Ahihi Bay or possibly La Perouse. That’s into the lava territory. [snip nightclubs] One thing you absolutely shouldn’t miss is eating dinner at Mama’s Fish House: http://www.mamasfishhouse.com/
Also, driving on the “road to Hana” is excellent as in scenic to the max. Hope that helps. Personally Makena Beach is just about my favorite beach anywhere…

I’ve had an amazing experience SCUBA diving at Elua beach in Wailea, which is very close. If you don’t SCUBA it’s also an excellent snorkeling spot.
If you like wine, a drive upcountry to the winery shouldn’t be missed. I think it is Tedeschi winery (but I could be mistaken). I believe that there is a stable next door that rents horses for trail rides.
Just a note of warning; if you go up there, bring long pants and a jacket, temperatures fluctuate once you get up to higher elevations.
As for nightclubs, I haven’t a clue. Anyone else?

Thanks for the snorkeling reco and dressing up for the weather.
No worries about the night club, I guess it was not clear, we are “not” looking for nightclubs.

I would say the one thing to do if you do nothing else, is spend time in the water with fins and a snorkel.
I was terrified of snorkeling (i am an urban/swimmingpool person) and I took the plunge (pun intended) with the insistence (sp) of a friend. I am so glad I did.
The fish were amazing, the views were spectacular, soothing, peaceful and defies description.
Cannot recommend nightclubs. I didn’t see any obvious signs of nightclubs like you’d find in say, Boston or New York. Maybe the hotels do an inclusive thing….check out some of the 5star ones, they sometimes offer entertainment that you can take advantage of without staying in their facility.
Also, pick up the free booklets and brochures (very touristy, but full of coupons and current events). They were a good source of info on what to do!
