Kentucky, United States

lovelife. asks,

“Are there any good places to visit in Kentucky. I'm from Ohio and my best friend and I want to take a mini-little road trip to somewhere close. Is there anything worth visiting? We like all kinds of art, music, etc.”

Louisville

Louisville is nice…there’s plenty of art and music available. For art may I recommend:

21C Hotel on Main Street, Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft on Main Street, Speed Art Museum on Third Street and several art galleries on Bardstown Road and Frankfort Avenue. I’m sure there are other places, but these are ones to hit first.

Music is a little harder to come by…it depends on what you like. I do recommend stopping by ear X-tacy on Bardstown Road. If you’re looking for live music, there’s a big to-do July 4th on the Waterfront with George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic as a headliner of sorts. And on the radio, check out 91.9 WFPK for good tunes and a concert calendar.

Berea has a good folk art and music festival in July, but might be too far for you.

Lexington has a good Shakespeare festival all summer on UK’s campus.

I second the stuff about Louisville. Plus in the ville you also have http://www.actorstheatre.org/

which I love.

My favorite things in Kentucky are outdoors.

If you go to Louisville, you should see if Paradigm is playing anywhere. They’re jazzy and fabulous.

If you like doing things outdoors, Kentucky has alot of wonderful parks and lakes.

My favorite place for a one day hiking trip would be Natural Bridge State Park.

there are some cool places. i would say if you really wanna see something that will really stick in your mind….Go see Mammoth caves!!! now carter caves is a little closer to ohio but i would go the extra hour and see mammoth caves. It is the largest cave system in the unites states and it truly awsome to see. the drive to there is kinda cool too. i love the rolling hills. but if your looking to party. there are a couple things ya should know. there are alot of dry counties in kentucky. so you might not be able to get liquor or beer. That would be my suggestion if you really wanna see something truly mind blowing.
