Hello There,
Charlottetown is the central hub of the Island, and so if you had to stay in one town, I think it should be that one. You’ll spend less time traveling and more time seeing things. There’s a great culinary institute there where you can eat student-chef cooked food, but you have to book a reservation in advance. How are you getting to the island, because depending on which way you’re coming (plane, bridge or ferry) there are different things to see on your way to Charlottetown to make the most of you time.

A lot depends on when you will be visiting, what you’re looking for, and if you have transportation.
If you’re coming in the spring, fall or winter, I’d suggest you stay in Charlottetown. In our off-season, if anything is happening, it’s usually in Charlottetown. Lots of great local restaurants.
If you’re here during the tourist season (June – September), and want a quick immersion in the touristy thing, then I’d recommend you stay at a bed & breakfast on the North Shore and take in a traditional lobster supper and a night of music, like a kaylee. There are also the many Anne of Green Gables tourist attractions if that interests you.

Okay, assuming it’s literally tonight that you’re coming, I’d say you have 2 things stacked against you: the time of year and night of the week. The best things to do involve summer.
If you decide to head to Charlottetown there are quite a few great restaurants, and pubs. If you can find a copy of The Buzz (the local a & e paper, it’s available online), it might have some more ideas. Us ‘locals’ really like live trivia , so if you see it listed, you might want to take a look.
My recommendation: stay in Charlottetown, check out Cedar’s Eatery (chicken shwarma is unreal), then hear who’s playing upstairs at Baba’s Lounge or down the road at Hunter’s Ale House. If all else fails, city cinema is nearby (independent movie theatre).

Yeah, I would definitely recommend staying in Charlottetown if you’re only going to be there for one night. In June, there is lots of live music on the go. Ditto on the trivia suggestion, I love Andrew’s music trivia at Hunter’s Alehouse. It depends what night you’re there though. When you get to PEI, pick up a copy of “The Buzz”. It’s the island’s free entertainment guide.
I’m living in Calgary right now but I’ll be back home around mid-June for the summer, so if you need a tour guide, I’m game!
