A question about this place:
Where are some good clothes shops in Berlin? I went last year and only managed to find second-hand places - decent, but would prefer more options. And has anybody survived the Klo Bar experience (www.klo.de/content.htm)? If so would you recommend it?

Answers:

You can check out Galleria department store on Alexanderplatz where there is a variety of departments on clothing. Also, you might like to check C&A and H&M which are chain-stores with stores all over the world (including Germany). The prices at these places are moderate and not so high, but meanwhile you can not find fancy things to buy.

potsdamer platz is a good place also, there are many many many shops there! and if all else fails, ka de we is the biggest department store in berlin…i think it is 8 floors, u can get anything in the world there. when shopping in berlin tho, make sure u have cash, very few places accept credit cards

There are some very nice clothes shops in the Scheunenviertel. You find them in Alte Schönhauser Straße, Neue Schönhauser Straße, Rosenthaler Straße, Rochstraße and Münzstraße. It’s bsicly the quarter around the Hackecher Markt Station.
These stores are not very cheap but they sell the style, Berlin is currently very famous for in the fashion scene.

Otherwise I can deeply recommend the ein000 Magazine (http://www.ein000.de/). It’s a shopping guide which is for free and which you can find in many shops in Berlin. There are a lot on nice tipps and it’s in English and german.

Credit card acceptance is in fact sometimes a problem in Berlin as it is in Germany in general a problem. But you should come along with debit cards in nearly any shop.

I lived in Berlin for 3+ years and my favorite place to shop was the Hackesher Markt area. Oranienburgerstr., Rosenthalerstr., Neue- and Alte-Schönhauser Alles, Auguststr. Wander around here.

Another awesome place to shop is wandering the Kollwitzplatz neighborhood. Walk north from the Senefelderplz. Ubahn stop on Kollwitzstr. and then hang a right on Knaackstr. then a left on Rykestr. Then just wander around this whole kollwitz platz joint… you’ll find some good shopping.

Finally, head to the Ubahn and go to Eberswalderstr. I think that’s the U2 line. Then walk to street level and wander around a bit. There’ll be some great shopping here too.

Keep in mind that Berlin is sort of like NYC. There’s a lot of shopping, some is chic, in small boutiques thrown around the city and others are huge stores shoved in malls (like the Arkaden in Potzdammerplatz) or shopping areas (like “kudamm”). I tend toward the trendy and chic…but that can be pricey too.

Finally, on weekends, there are flea markets all over the place. Cool stuff can be found here. Try the market near TU and the market near Friedrichstr along the river, it’s awesome.

Oh, and Ka De We is pretty cool, but in the end it’s a large department store. Best is to head to the top floor where food from all over the world is on display. Awesome.

Hey,

If you don’t want to shop at the chain stores there are some cool clothes stores round in Prenzlauer Berg and Hackescher Markt area, all little boutiques and the weekend flea markets are good too.
