You need go no further than the Strat to find some good shows and things to see.
I understand Polly Esther’s (the bar there) has a new thing where you can pay $40 for an all-you-can-drink evening. They also have the American Superstars show, which is an impersonation show—pretty reasonably priced and pretty good.
Any of the big shows will cost you $100+. If you pick one of those, I would recommend Love, the Beatles show at the Mirage.
Food? Go for the buffets. The Bellagio has the best, but the most expensive. Planet Hollywood has a very good one as does the Paris, and they’re slightly cheaper.
Oh, and take a trip downtown – the overhead light show down Fremont Street is free at night. It may only show on the weekends; it depends on when you go. Gambling down there and food are much cheaper.
You should go onto lasvegasadvisor.com to see who’s playing when you go.

The above answers are great- I LOVE the Irish bar at NYNY! :)
If you’re planning on going to a show, check here for cheap tickets first: https://www.goldstar.com/join?p=F143526RP. Right now they have Phantom, Spamalot, Penn & Teller, and Mamma Mia for half price!!
The Tropicana has a decent buffet, although it’s not as nice as the Bellagio by a long shot. I think I paid about $15 for the Sunday brunch buffet, which included all the Mimosas my heart desired.
Have fun!!

The stratosphere is at the far north end of the strip. Getting to the other larger more pricey hotels mid and south strip requires a cab or bus at least part of the way. I would recommend that you get a double decker/bus pass for at least one full day while you are there. The bus runs frequently and it is the cheapest way to get around. There are also free shuttles between certain related properties on and off strip – you don’t have to be staying at the property to take advantage of these as well. For example between Barbary Coast and Gold Coast. The breakfast buffet at Mandalay Bay is the best – not cheap but a very excellent value for a top rate buffet. You should put it on your list of “to do”s. Check out tripadvisor.com for any specific things you might want to know. Must see free things = Bellagio Fountain, especially at night, Treasure Island ship show and Mirage volcano. There is plenty to do without spending money on a big show, but if I were going to pick one it would be LOVE as well. Definitely ride to the top of the Stratosphere Tower.

You are staying at the end of the old strip… It is kind of ghetto down there. So be safe for one…
For 2 you seem to be only going there for the Strip experience… There is so much more to do there. You can do the Hoover Dam helicopter rides,(Hover damn is 15 min away), go in door para cleating (Indoor Skydiving), You can go to the old mobster strip… Which is in North Las Vegas… This is if you want to get away from the strip…
But on the Strip my fav place was the M&M factory.

Cheap and nice way to get around the strip if you’re not in a hurry.

actually my profile pic is from my trip to Vegas ;-).
The best way to get from the Stratosphere to the other cool casinos on the strip is by using the Monorail. You can buy multiple-day passes to make it cheaper and you can access the other cool sites on the strip.
If you go to the half-price ticked booth, located in the M&M building on the other side of the strip (by the Excalibur, Luxor area) you can get great prices on shows and attractions. Be sure to get there early for good bargains (I try to hit it by 10 or 11).
Fun shows on your end are the Star Trek Experience (a MUST SEE if you’ve ever liked the show) and the Amazing Johnathan (a great comedy magician), which you can typically buy cheap at the half-price booth.
Also check out all the free shows you can- the fountains at Bellagio, Sirens of TI at Treasure Island, statue fight at Cesar’s Palace are just some of the few. If you’re into sight-seeing and doing the tourist experience of Vegas, BE PREPARED TO WALK. Bring good walking shoes. Even with the Monorail, these casinos are HUGE, and getting from one to the next can be quite a hike.
March is ideal weather-wise. I’ve done that ride at the top of the Stratosphere before; it’s quite exhillerating. Plus the revolving restaurant is fun too; some of the best views in Vegas.

The first time I went to Vegas was in March and yes the weather is best at that time year. Not too hot and not cold at all.
Definitely check out the Stratosphere rides at the top, you may not want to do all of them because there is one that might make you soil yourself. Bellagio fountains are pretty cool at night along with the Fremont light show.
If you are looking for something low-key, I recommend the dueling twins piano bar over at Harrah’s, which is also where they sell the 3 foot margaritas w/shoulder straps. Walk around with those on the strip and you get the looks and conversation starters, “Where did you get that?!?”
For St. Patty’s day, the NYNY irish pub is cool and I think the Orleans has an Irish Pub as well, which is really nice. I’ve never been there for St. Patty’s day, but I’m willing to bet that it gets less crowded than the one at NYNY, unless that is what you are into.
Penn and Teller is a great show at the Rio but a lot a big name shows are kind of pricey. I think I remember seeing their show for $75. If you are willing to spend the money and see if you can get tickets NOW, the Danny Gans show is the best show in town.
If you are a big fan of lobster and crab legs, the Rio is the place to go but it is like $40 per person. The Bellagio is the best for a Breakfast buffet.
The Monorail is definitely the way to travel between casinos. Cab fare adds up and traffic is kind of horrific all over Las Vegas.
Every cab and monorail should have like a book or magazine that lists all the entertainment options along with coupons. Browse through those and pick what you want to do. There is so much that you won’t be able to do it in 4 days.

Las Vegas
Ok so as a local I agree the Strat is not in the best area of town. So yes be safe. There is a monorail stop at the Sahara that runs all the way to the MGM with plenty of stops in between. Inside the start is a little place called Roxy’s pretty good food and fun entertainment..stay away from the Naga (asian restaurant) horrible service I walked out before I even got served. Shows can vary in price a few reasonable priced shows are Little Legends & Fashionistas at Krave (next to Planet Hollywood), The Mentalist at Hooters, Mac King at Harrah’s and Tim Gabrielson at House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. If you want pricier shows Danny Gans at the Mirage and any Cirque Show. I have not personally been but have heard nothing but great things about the Seafood Buffet @ the Rio…a little pricey but well worth it. Cheesecake factory in the Forum shops at Caesar’s, MESA grill in Caesar’s Palace. Also there are tons of free things to do in Vegas. Grab any of the free Vegas mags in the hotel for these place and great coupons as well. Oh and if you want a great burger there is Fatburger…it’s next to the CVS on the strip…between Planet Hollywood and MGM.

I agree the Stratosphere is not in the safest area of town. So be very careful. The Monorail is definitely the way to travel between casinos. I want to add that my favorite show is Zumanity (any Cirquue Show) at NYNY. BE PREPARED TO WALK. The Wynn’s Buffett is great.

It’s a bit of ride from the main strip, but Freemont Street is pretty cool. We stayed right on Freemont Street, and the light + music displays on an evening on the covered street was cool. Pretty much anything between there and just south of the Strat was definately a bit uncomfortable walking through in early evening though, I wouldn’t want to move around there after dark. We only had the one evening in Vegas which definately wasn’t enough, but the aquarium inside Caesers (I think) was really cool, and the Bellagio fountain display at night is a must.
Not sure what the weather will be like in March, but Lake Mead was really nice too. I found the Hoover Dam over-rated, though it was packed with people in mid-July! Might be quieter in March and isn’t too far from Vegas with plenty of tours heading out that way.

Monorail to get around. And a lot of walking!
Rides and view on the top of the stratosphere. Food good too in the restraurant at the top.
Bellagio fountains (amazing!). Restraurant on the side of road over looking them looked good but really hard to get into – always fully booked.
Downtown for some old skool flavour (via taxi).
Helicopter flight over the strip at night is short but pretty cool.
Hoover dam en route to helicopter rides into the Grand Canyon (although possibly not if only there for 4 days as it takes a whole day). Did this in a jeep with a guide and it was a great day out – although a lot of driving.
NYNY irish pub is probably a must for St. Pattys day but will be super crowded. Had great fish and chips in there one night.
Oh, and I second the MESA grill in Caesar’s Palace. Very nice (and expensive) tequila.

I agree with what people have been saying about the N end of the strip and also about all the walking. I’d recommend checking the weather forecast a day or so before you go so that you don’t end up freezing or melting. One more thing: bring clothing that will be easy for you to clean or have cleaned, since people there smoke anywhere and everywhere and the smoke gets into everything.
There are so many nice places on the Strip, but my faves were Luxor (and the Sphinx!) and Caesar’s Palace (of course). I would have loved to ride that rollercoaster around NYNY but it was far too cold for that last Dec.

As you may already know, there is a Cirque du Soleil stadium in LA. I hear the show is intense now that it has a new, fancy stage. It sounds amazing, so you should definitely check it out.
Have fun!
