I got back from Dublin on Wednesday night. I had a cracking breakfast at the Queen of Tarts on Dame St, just opposite the entrance to the castle. Amazingly crispy potato and chive cake, a free-range egg, toast, rooibos tea, yummy grilled tomato and the biggest pile of mushrooms I’ve ever seen on a cafe breakfast. Great stuff that really set me up for the day. They also do the most ridiculously decadent-looking cakes, which I now regret avoiding.

The only places I know where you could leave your bags are Busarus (bus station) and Connolly (train station). The airport express bus goes right to Busarus, but if you were going to go to Dame St, getting off at Busarus (as opposed to O’ Connell St) would add another 15 minutes to your walk.

If you haven’t been in Dublin before and if the weather was nice, you should leave your bags at Busaras (the main bus station) and walk through the town to St. Stephen’s Green for breakfast. You’d get to see the Liffey, the Trinity and Grafton Street itself. If the weather is nice, get a takeaway breakfast (my favourite is Insomnia on the corner of Grafton Street and the park) and sit in St. Stephen’s Green.
If it’s not, there a a good few places on South William Street that runs parallel to Grafton Street. My personal favourites are Kaffe Moka, Busyfeet & Coco and Lemon.
Also, here’s a link to a website called 10best, listing 10 good breakfast/brunch restaurants (no idea how up-to-date it is):

If you want to stay on the northside, there are a few hotels on the quays that do full Irish breakfast, just have a walk around. Also Epicurean Food Hall on Abbey St opens early and provides lots of choice.
My absolute favourite breakfast place used to be this small cafe, possibly white front, no notion of it’s name but it was near the Temple Bar Pharmacy on Essex Street… at least it was there 3 years ago! Not very helpful I know. There are lots of nice cafes in Temple Bar too, you might like browsing around. And I’ll second the earlier review of Queen of Tarts, it’s worth the walk!
