Oi,
Voce fala portugues?Legal!
I liked the botafogo easy hostel
http://www.botafogohostel.com/
I never stayed in hotels. I was in hostels and with friends.
The Carioca Easy Hostel is Urca is also nice. They were once owned by the same couple, but they divorced/split up, and now they each own one hostel. (Just a tip:never ask either one of them about the incident as they are a little bitter about it).
I hope this helps. Rio is so huge…there are so many neighborhoods to choose from. But Botafogo is a good spot because of its proximity to Copacabana, Ipanema, and Lapa. Very nice places to experience Rio.
Also, the Botafogo Easy Hostel will take you on nice, relatively cheap excursions to give you a really nice cultural experience of Brazil while you’re there.
I hope this helps!

If I was staying more that 2 weeks I would
rent a cheap room for about $300 to $400 for 1 month. You can get 1 free meal also. You can talk with a Brazilian family and really get to know the culture. I stayed for 24 days but i was with a few friends.

Hi! I live near the Botafogo Hostel, but someone talked about this one first! ;D
Try http://www.stoneofabeach.com.br too. I like the bar… :D
Don’t forget to ask for air conditioning. It is not a luxury in November.
Good luck!

If you want to stay in a hotel I can suggest you the Hotel Vilamar in Copacabana (http://www.hotelvilamarcopacabana.com.br). It is two blocks from Copacabana Beach and in the corner of the main street. A friend of mine stayed there and told me that is a nice hotel, not luxurious but confortable.
If you prefer a hostel I would suggest the Rio Backpackers (http://riobackpackers.com/index.htm) in Copacabana, this one is 5 blocks away from the beach, it can seem far, but believe me, it is not. Another hostel option is the Che Lagarto (http://www.chelagarto.com/ipanema-hostels.php) in Ipanema, it is famous for its pub opened for locals and tourists, this one is placed 50 meters from Ipanema Beach.
I marked in a map the three options http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=114762532434866914524.00043b00a00b512632838&z=15&om=1

If your looking for something cheap, that’s what you’ll find, but I wouldn’t take my woman there, especially if it was a new romance and you want to keep your jewelry, watch or camera. And it’s not a good idea to ask a taxi to take you to one, unless your not worried about getting set up for a roll somewhere at the edge of Fafelos during or after your delivery and you don’t mind staying with hustlers and piranha’s. Write down the cabies Lic # during your introduction and he’ll know you mean business. If you need something inexpensive, plan ahead get the periodicals on line and shop for a room, paying for a month and staying two weeks would probably be cheaper. Staying for less than two weeks is a wast of time after figuring your travel time and getting over any physical adjustment you’ll be susceptible to that could slow you down some and there’s sooo much to do. Take a romantic trip up to Cabo Frio and Buzious, Batafogo or Baja de Dajuca are okay but the Rio night life is better and the best Jazz musicians and drummers in the world are right there in Ipanema and other local musicians in the local clubs in Leblon and Copacapana and of course Help and the other discos, anyway have fun…
