A question about this place:
We are visiting northern Spain in October and we want to spend our final night and day in Bilbao. Does anyone have a hotel recommendation that is near to the action? Also, apart from the Gugenheim, what should I see and where should I eat in order t

Go to Museo de Bellas Artes, near the Guggenheim. Nice art museum.

Plaza Vieja and its bars are a must to drink wine and pintxos (little tapas). All bars are nice but I love Victor Montes

The restaurant of the Guggenheim is great and a great chance to try the Creative Basque gastronomy.

There are great hotels near the Guggenheim, but I can’t recommend anyone.

Bilbao is not all that big… Go to the old town (Casco Viejo) definitely. I had the best dinner there. Look for one of the old small taverns there. The scruffier looking the better. They are not that many of them there as one would expect of a Spanish town. You have to turn couple of corners while walking in the old town.
Locals usually queue in front of the best places.

The Old Town is also one of the places to see but if you are a bit more adventures you could go and take a look at old abandoned industrial zone that stretches along the river towards the sea. Bilbao was an industrial city most of it’s history.
