South Philly: old Italian culture east of Broad Street, black communities west of Broad, surprise neighborhood in Girard Estates. Eat at Carman’s Country Kitchen (11th and Wharton). Bowl at St. Monicas.

North Philly: Impoverished with many beautiful surprises. My grandmother grew up here, in Strawberry Mansion. Check out the Doll Museum. The Village of Arts and Humanities. Black west of Broad, Latino east of Broad (largely). Great Latino culture at 6th and Lehigh— Taller Puertoriqueno. Temple University runs through North Philly up Broad Street.

Northeast Philly: Middle-Upper Middle Class— policemen and firemen live here (to meet residency requirement). One of the more white sections of the city. Lots of malls. Nabisco factory. Franklin Mills outlet shops. Growing Latino presence, and growing Russian Jewish presence.
